Ok so I’m a little useless at this everyday–life ‘thing’, but
rather than spend another eternity hiding under my duvet (alright, or in my bath..) I began to like the idea of getting inspiration from the things that are right in front of me –
and started taking pictures. Finding ways to make the routined more exciting, has become a sort of personal challenge. Seeing things through a lens has had a sort of kaleidoscopic effect on me, like when you wear a pair of ski goggles, life looks like it’s on a buzz. Sometimes it just takes a different light and those same same fields up by where we live change from ‘Drama’ to ‘Retro’ or ‘Chills’ to ‘Nordic’ and that in real life, not in virtual. Pretty awesome. As is Sherlock, my beagle who helped get me out there to begin with. (And pretty amusing to follow on camera.)
Fast forward to my kitchen and I actually look forward to arranging peas and mashed potatoes on a plate or peeling asparagus now because it makes me think of what it will look like on camera. In fact we’re even saving on burned pots just because instead of running off to the computer to write a poem (well, jotting down ideas anyway), all the while forgetting about the rice or the steamed apples, I can now experiment with my iPhone – which I use as my camera for the time being – and click away merrily without having to leave the cooking unattended.
There’s something meditative about snapping shots which in turn helps clear my mind and often sparks off the odd idea for a line or a scene in my book or a post for my blog.
I hope you enjoy the pictures oh and you may want to try it out yourself and let me know what you think 😉
